It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable.
The concept of equity audits that we present in this book is one that we have developed and refined to be used as a tool by school leadership practitioners. It is intended to help in their work to assess systemic equity in their schools and to assist them in planning for change. The term equity audits, however, is not something we invented. It is a phrase that has been used frequently with a variety of meanings in the United States and internationally in educational and corporate settings.
