Originally developed for deaf children, this innovative and successful drama programme addressing personal, social and emotional needs can benefit all children in primary schools. The interactive and lively ideas cover a variety of themes from empathy to assertiveness. Bringing together the expertise of a drama teacher and the skills of a teacher of the deaf, the book provides an unconventional way of exploring human concerns.
Module Two: ‘I Know How You Feel’
This three-session module builds on the previous module ‘I Can Express How I Feel’. It gives children the opportunity to think about the feelings of others. It encourages them to experience the feelings involved in certain situations and by people other than themselves. They are given the chance to discover that we often react similarly to certain situations. Finally, from the basis of that knowledge, they are encouraged to respond in an appropriate manner to that which others are experiencing, so showing empathy for that person. Within this module games are included which are designed to continue building the co-operative skills of drama without having direct connection with the subject matter.[Page 18]
