Preparation
The teacher reads the poem through (A3 copy) for the class, then asks them to read it through individually. Pairs text-marked as follows:
- words which suggest tiredness;
- words which suggest disgust;
- words which suggest the writer's helplessness.
The class then reported back and a brief discussion followed to consolidate understanding of the narrative and the poet's viewpoint.
