Globalisation and Media Convergence
The broad context for this chapter is dominated, overwhelmingly, by two forces: what is customarily described as the globalisation of the media and entertainment industries, and convergence between the technologies used as systems of delivery within the information, entertainment and media industries. While I am not going to go into these two forces in depth here, I need to outline the kinds of importance they have for our understanding of the production of the contemporary celebrity.
