In the previous chapter we indicated that the use of the word ‘festival’ in the context of Holocaust commemoration can be considered to be inappropriate (see pp. 66–67). Our justification is that a festival is a day or period of celebration and has connotations of fun and frivolity which do not fit well with the seriousness of the issues of Holocaust Education, remembrance and commemoration.
