Transitions combine turning points, milestones or life events with subtle, complex processes of ‘becoming somebody’ personally, educationally and occupationally. Such processes are sometimes a response to particular events, and sometimes events arise out of shifts and developments in identity and agency (Ecclestone, 2007: 3).
