This chapter describes a combination of short-term interventions designed to prevent the development of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is intended for use as a crisis intervention model with people who have experienced a recent traumatic incident. The model was originally designed for short-term interventions in workplace counselling, however it can easily be adapted for use in a wide variety of settings.
I developed the model while working as the principal employee counsellor within a large Local Authority. The Employee Counselling Service provided short-term counselling for 24,000 workers in eight departments representing a wide variety of trades and professions.
