65.1 The Instrument and its Administration
Motivation Analysis of Organisations—Atmosphere (MAO-A) was developed to study organisational atmosphere, which is defined as the perceived effectiveness of organisational climate. Organisational climate is proposed in terms of six motives and 12 organisational processes (see Chapter 64).
The instrument has 120 items, one for each of the 10 organisational processes, for each of the motives and each of the two orientations (approach and avoidance): 10 × 6 × 2 = 120. Respondents are asked to rate each item on a 5-point scale. The instrument is appended.
