31.1 The Instrument and its Administration
Leadership Profile Indicator—Health (LPI-HA) assesses leadership styles and effectiveness in the health system. LPI-HA consists of 12 situations, each posing a problem for the organisational leader. Each has four alternative strategies for managing the problem given. The respondent is required to select one strategy that he would use if he were the leader in that situation.
The 12 situations were developed after discussing Hersey and Blanchard's theory and its appropriateness for the Indian health system in a group of 25 health administrators. Several groups prepared the four types of situations—highly developed, moderately high, moderately low and very low level of development. After discussion, 12 situations were selected and edited.
