Often thought of as two extremes of an emotional pole, depression and anxiety are actually inextricably linked (Montgomery, 1991). Depressed people often experience states of anxiety when going into public places; most commonly supermarket and post-office queues, pubs, cafes and restaurants, or buses or trains. Being thrown into a public arena in these situations turns people from the black of motivationless despair to acute panic and anxiety.
