Throughout this book, there have been illustrations of client presentations that may not be suitable for counselling in a time-limited setting. For example, in Chapter 4 it was recommended that those presenting with puerperal or manic depression or learned helplessness should be referred on to secondary mental health care. Similarly, those with severe post traumatic stress disorder (Chapter 6) or anorexia (Chapter 9) need greater input than six sessions will allow. This chapter will look at other presenting problems that will be more appropriate for referral. However, this does not mean that these clients should be instantly dumped if considered unsuitable.
