Very often the counsellor becomes increasingly aware that the client seated in front of him in such great distress is the wrong client. It should be the spouse/mother/father/teenage child, etc. (or all of them), who are creating havoc and are scapegoating the presenting client. Family systems operate with fascinating complexity.
