This chapter, based on a research project, is divided into three parts; the introduction sets the scene, examining the theoretical foundations of reflexivity in relation to the self. Theoretical foundations of reflexive case study, which was used to investigate the therapeutic use of the self in the role of clinical supervisor, are introduced alongside the ontological considerations and the epistemological roots that informed the inquiry. As reflexive case study is about contextualizing practice, the concept of the self within a postmodernist perspective is explored and its influences on qualitative methodology scrutinized.
