Introduction

Most economic theories employ simple, powerful models in which individual agents make choices to maximize some objective like utility or profit using all pertinent information available in an efficient manner. These models assume that agents have identical, standard, well-behaved, time-consistent preferences that are unaffected by trivial factors like the framing of the choice, perceptions of others, or information not relevant to the choice. These models have been widely applied to outcomes in sports markets, as well as other settings.
