Introduction

The Olympic Games and World Cup rank among the largest sports events in the world. The Summer Olympic Games, Winter Olympic Games, and World Cup all occur every four years and allow the world's premier athletes to compete against one another. These are arguably the most important mega-events in the world and will be the focus of this chapter. The term mega-event(s) will be used interchangeably with the Olympic Games and the World Cup throughout.
