Although only the final chapter in this section is explicitly labelled as such, most of the authors in this section are concerned, in their different ways, with exploring a path between those two pervasive urban clichés, the city as dream and the city as nightmare. Spurred on by numerous popular imaginations of the city, cities have been seen historically, and arguably increasingly so today, within this binary.
