Change, it seems, is difficult. What brings people for therapy is the experience of an intractable problem: they are stuck and unable to help themselves. They come with the hope of finding an expert who will know or work out the solution to their problems. Their expectations – sometimes hidden, sometimes only thinly disguised – are often that a kind of magic will take place. But these hopes of an all-powerful healer are to be disappointed.
