Introducing staff to professional learning communities: Foundations

Building any structure requires planning, but eventually the day comes for the ground breaking. In previous chapters, principals were introduced to the theoretical underpinnings of PLCs and learned about some preliminary planning tools for the principal and PLC Steering Team. In this chapter, principals are offered a variety of strategies that facilitate the collaborative construction of the foundations of a PLC with their staff. The hands-on activities of this chapter, along with the focus on establishing learning teams in later chapters, are designed to support principals as they introduce PLCs to staff and build enthusiasm for collaborative action.
