Continually ‘Shhh-ing’ a class is a waste of breath. The noise level comes down for a few seconds, but rises because there is nothing to fill the vacuum. Replace ‘Shhh’ with what you really want. It is not just that you want less noise. You do, but this needs expressing as a requirement for concentration, attention to detail, brain-power and independent thought. State what you want, rather than what you do not.
