Cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) was developed in the late 1970s and can be applied within a number of different settings such as in groups, supervision, team work and individual therapy. CAT is a time-limited therapy that draws on the principles of cognitive and psychodynamic theory. This combined approach helps a person to think about themselves in terms of their thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how these components were and continue to be influenced by their early experiences of relationships and roles as a child.
