Motivating Boys and Girls
While this book has outlined general principles and processes involved in motivating all young people, it will be important to take into account a number of significant differences between the general motives and subsequent mindsets of boys and girls. Consequently there will be certain driver applications that may be particularly beneficial for boys and others for girls.
The motivational profiles of boys and girls differ in some important ways (summarized in Table 11.1). These are differences in degree, in that the between-sex differences exceed the within-sex differences. There is, of course, a great deal of overlap between the distributions of features between the sexes as well as major differences within each gender.
