Sexuality plays an important role in dating and mating relationships. We already have seen, in Chapter 8, that several aspects of sexuality—including excitement, desire, and activity—are associated with feelings of passionate love. This section of the text focuses on relational sexuality—sexual responses that occur within the context of romantic relationships. Relational sexuality is very different from sex between uncommitted or casual partners. Certainly, relational and casual sex often stem from similar motives, such as the need for physical release or the urge to satiate or express sexual desires.
