Governance as a term has gained prominence in public debates around the world in recent times. It is often used with the adjective good as if to suggest that what is under discussion is governance evaluated positively. To use the term in such a manner, contrary to the general impression, is not new. While the Oxford English Dictionary defines governance as ‘the action or manner of governing’, it also includes in its definition ‘good order’, especially in ‘to set in governance’.
