Introduction

This chapter provides an outline of the application of systematic and objective market research to determine consumers' views on ethical and environmental issues. Some of the issues arising from the use of market research in this area will also be discussed. This is followed by a summary of the key findings from recent research undertaken by MORI, mainly in Great Britain, while adding an international perspective where possible.

Before discussing some of MORI's recent research findings in this area, we provide some background to our research in this field, both qualitative and quantitative, and discuss some of the theoretical issues arising from the practice of research of this type.
