Chapter 5 has examined observed variability in ADHD behaviours to identify effective teaching approaches for individuals with ADHD and Chapter 6 has highlighted general classroom strategies which may be useful in reducing ADHD behaviours included in the three core symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity (APA, 2000). By drawing on research findings and other literature this final chapter in Section 2 aims to raise awareness of some of the cognitive, affective and other difficulties associated with ADHD which may provide further challenges for the student and the teacher in the school environment. Where possible suggestions are made as to how some of these difficulties may be alleviated.
