Most authors are reluctant to supply along-the-way commentaries on their own writing. Ordinarily, I am too. But I’m making an exception in this instance because I want you to recognize that this chapter about validity is, hands down, the most important chapter in the entire book. If I don’t do a solid job of explaining what validity is, or—assuming that my explanation is okay—if you don’t do a solid job in grasping what the chapter says, you’re certain to be seriously limited in your overall understanding of what educational assessment is all about.
