Much academic attention has been paid to debunking the myth that television news is a ‘window on the world’. Rather than reflecting the social world, journalism studies has long argued that journalists are constrained by a set of predictable rules and conventions that shape, most of the time, what counts as being ‘newsworthy’ (see Chapter 3).
