In understanding contemporary television journalism, the focus of the book so far has been on interpreting trends in national news coverage. This, of course, excludes the role of local or regional television news stations, many of which attract large audiences and are valued and trusted above national television bulletins or cable news services, not least in the US, where local television news is the most widely consumed form of journalism.
