Introduction
In 1988 the government introduced the first iteration of a National Curriculum, which included the relatively new subject of Information Technology. Over the next twenty-seven years there were a number of tweaks and redesigns, and IT picked up a ‘C’ (for ‘communication’) along the way to become ICT, which was taught in schools until 2015, when the latest iteration saw it renamed ‘Computing’, a deliberate transformation to indicate a shift in emphasis.
Previously, we had strands of ‘Finding things out’, ‘Developing ideas and making things happen’, ‘Exchanging and sharing information’, and ‘Reviewing, modifying and evaluating work as it progresses’. Now we have ‘digital literacy’, ‘information technology’ and ‘computer science’. The content is fairly similar. ...
