Music has a unique ability to capture the attention of all students, including those with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Even children with hearing impairments seem to be drawn to rhythms felt through vibrations.
Music can be part of a holistic educational approach for SLD and PMLD students. Encouraging students to recognise and react appropriately to changes in music can promote cognition. Interaction with others to create music can feed into the Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) curriculum with awareness of others and turn-taking.
