Introduction

In Chapter 6, we discussed the increased emphasis in the music curriculum on connecting students to the ‘real world’ of music and the role of music and musicians in society. One way of developing students' understanding further is to provide opportunities for them to work with a range of musicians who can talk to them about their professional lives, engage them in musical processes which link to ‘real-life’ briefs and give them access to high-quality professional practice.
