Adelajda completed a PGCE and qualified as a teacher four years prior to the time of writing and this case study was originally going to be about her. However, she suggested that it would be more useful to have the voice of one of her students. Therefore, this case study focuses on the perspective of Jessica, a hair and beauty student working towards an NVQ level 2, and resitting her maths GCSE, in a further education college in the north of England.[Page 114]
Jessica says that she knew from an early age she wanted to gain skills in hair and beauty but was unsure of whether this would lead to a career or a hobby. ...
