Warm-Up Activity – ‘Vikings’
This game involves the students sitting in a circle as for Circle Time. The facilitator nominates a Viking Chief. He or she must row a longship whilst making ‘heave ho’ noises (miming). The player on either side of the Viking Chief should then row with the arm nearest to the Chief, making the same noise. When the Chiefton wishes to pass on her duties, she should stand up and, making a blowing noise, shoot an imaginary arrow at her choice of the new Chiefton. The new Chiefton then takes up rowing duties and the player to his immediate left begins with single-handed strokes. Anyone within the group who doesn't take up the challenge is out, along with ...
