This book of structured activities for use in teaching about culture, ethnicity and diversity comprises easy-to-use classroom and training exercises that are both engaging to participants and effective as learning tools. The contributors offer tools to those teachers and trainers who strive to increase understanding of and communication between ethnic and racial groups. In today's “politically correct” society, increased attention is being given to the issue of diversity. Undoubtedly, any attempt to increase sensitivity to individual differences and to combat prejudiced attitudes and behaviors is a positive step forward in America's struggle to move from the traditional “melting pot” philosophy to a more culturally sensitive “salad bowl” paradigm (O'Mara, 1994). Although well intended, efforts to enhance awareness of diversity issues often fail due to the lack of recognition of the insidious nature of subtle prejudice.
