As noted in earlier chapters, an appropriate exercise of positional authority in a school is to establish professional consensus on the big ideas that influence learning and therefore teaching to derive from those ideas the topics for conversation that are always understood to be worth exploring and then to conduct informal professional conversations as opportunities present themselves.
