This chapter will help you to:

  • consolidate your knowledge of the language of shape and space
  • understand progression in measures
  • develop a wide range of activities to use with children

Shape and space include the properties of 3D and 2D shapes, symmetry, position and direction, and movement and angle. Measures include the measurement of length, mass, capacity, area and time. They are grouped together as attainment target Ma3 in the National Curriculum; in the Primary Framework for mathematics the corresponding strands are Understanding Shape and Measuring.
