Teachers learning about learning

This chapter considers the way in which schools can support teachers in their own learning about learning. We begin this chapter with a case study to illuminate a particular approach to teachers’ learning. We argue this approach is more effective than other forms of professional development because it makes the teachers’ learning visible and this has an immediate impact on young people's learning.

This chapter suggests the central learning themes of this book – being actively involved in learning, responsibility for learning, collaboration and meta-learning – are the same for teachers’ learning as for young people's learning. This has consequences for the development of the school as a learning community, a focus for discussion in Chapter 9.
