Learning in the Classroom
This chapter develops the ideas presented in Chapter 1 by examining the learner and learning in the context of classrooms. Our purpose is to examine classrooms as learning environments and how conceptions of learning and external constraints affect what happens in them.
We draw on our own and others’ research to demonstrate how some classrooms are more effective in supporting learning than others. We make a distinction between the classroom as a context for learning and the role of the teacher in promoting learning-centred classrooms.
