Pity the poor people who have been involved with NQTs since induction has been statutory, because there have been four different sets of standards. And that's just in England: Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own. From 1999, NQTs had to meet the QTS standards plus ten extra for induction. Then things changed in 2003 with new QTS standards and six different induction standards. There was yet another complete change in 2007, with 41 Core Standards that new teachers had to meet. In 2012, a new set, the ‘Teachers’ Standards’, became statutory. So, with a shelf-life of only four years we can probably expect new ones in 2016 …
