This book is designed to help the managers and researchers in solving statistical problems using SPSS and to help them understand how they can use various statistical tools for their own research problems. SPSS is a very powerful and user friendly computer package for data analyses. It can take data from most other file-types and generate tables, charts, plots, and descriptive statistics, and conduct complex statistical analyses. In case of research based on secondary data, the number of cases may be quite large. Even in the case of survey and experimental research, it is not uncommon to have a few hundred cases. Researchers may need to run analyses on a subset of the cases or create new variables from the existing variables based on certain conditions. The commands described in this chapter are very useful for managing large and complex data files.
