Our model for parent and family involvement for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), specifically those diagnosed with high-functioning autism and Asperger Disorder (HF/AD) who participate in social skill programs, is shown in Figure 8.1. The model calls for individualized levels of participation and collaboration based on parent and family needs, resources, and preferences. The flexible participation options apply across all learning procedures: skill selection, modeling, role-play and role-play with known peers, feedback with coaching, generalization, and generalization homework.
