A Framework for Developing Effective Strategies

In this chapter the following questions will be considered:

  How can we ensure realistic expectations of children's learning?

  How can we develop effective strategies to manage children's behaviour?
• 3
  What can we do if the strategy does not work?

The use of a common process can help to guide our problem-solving. The use of a ‘can do’ statement, including a description of observable behaviour, context and time, will help to identify a realistic target. A successful target needs to include details of adult action which will support it. The purpose of setting the target is to give the child the best possible chance of success.
