Rationale
Think–Pair–Share–Write (TPSW) is a collaborative learning and problem-solving strategy in which students begin thinking or working on a problem independently. Then they talk with a partner about what they are learning and then participate in a whole-class sharing and discussion. Throughout the process, students use writing to document and reflect on what they are learning. TPSW helps make learning more engaging by adding a social element, but the sharing of ideas also helps scaffold student learning. It offers an alternative to teacher-led discussion but provides a place for whole-class discussion in which the teacher participates.
