After 14 years of university administration, I find it a pleasure to be back on the faculty and among faculty and would-be faculty. I consider this a promotion. I am not among those who define a faculty as a group of anarchists bound together by a common concern for parking. Nor am I one who believes that faculty members are concerned only about unlimited travel budgets, unlimited Pentium upgrades, unlimited graduate students, and very limited undergraduate teaching, although this list has grown more appealing since my return to the faculty.
