I am married, an associate professor, and have a 5-year-old daughter, a 23-year-old stepson, and a 25-year-old stepdaughter. In this essay, I want to outline the way in which my life as a scholar, wife, mother, colleague, friend, and so on has unfolded over the past several years and how the roles I inhabit and the things I try to accomplish create both stressors and opportunities for me to come into new understandings of myself and my world.
