As a former dean, I am not certain that faculty are fully aware of all the pressures being brought to bear on the modern business school by its many stakeholders. Clearly, we can be both relevant and rigorous. We can produce a theory-based business education with great practical value. However, to this point, the current period of transition has not, in my view, produced the levels of commitment and insight needed to achieve our goals.
