Although the U.S. teenage pregnancy rate has declined during recent years, teenage pregnancy nevertheless remains a significant problem in this country. In 1997, the most recent year for which data are currently available, among all females aged 15 to 19, almost 900,000 teens (9.4%) became pregnant (Ventura, Mosher, Curtin, Abma, & Henshaw, 2001).
