If we want to help children in the primary school to achieve the positive outcomes set out in the Every Child Matters agenda, we need to ensure all children have a healthy self esteem. This book seeks to give adults in schools tools to look at the way they could enhance self esteem in children. Introduction

Each of these sessions should be of no longer than an hour, excluding time for discussion and reflection. Ideally, all sessions should take place as a regular part of in-service training in one term of the school year. Weekly sessions would be beneficial. It is suggested that the sessions take place after school although some schools may need to use part of the lunch time break.

Busy teachers may need to be convinced of the need to spend time in enhancing children's self-esteem. In fact, some teachers may feel that certain children have all too much self-esteem! You may need to explain that it is easier for children who have positive self-esteem to ...
