The 24 ninth graders in Mr. Edwin and Mr. Sanchez's ninth-grade Science 101: Fundamentals of Science class represent diverse learning styles, abilities, and cultures. This section is considered the “adjusted” science class, yet the course covers state standards. Years ago, due to their reading skill levels or other disabilities, some of these students would have received science instruction in the special education classroom. The special education teacher paralleled the general science curriculum as much as possible, but students were not exposed to a robust and challenging science curriculum, as he did not have adequate materials or a science background.
