I served as editor of the Journal of Applied Psychology for 6 years, from 1976 to 1982, and as associate editor for approximately 2½ years. Including the year as editor-elect, this brings the grand total to over 9 years with the journal. Surely this entitles one to something. Consequently, I would like to take this opportunity to make a few outgoing comments. The topics I would like to touch on are the organizational context of the journal, some opinions about the manuscript review process, and some general impressions about the current state of the substantive literature.
